A valuable document summarizing the history of the Okinawa Labor Bank over 40 years.
Prefecture Prefecture
A financial institution created by working people
In 1950, from the labor movement and the cooperative movement, the first "Rokin" (Labor Bank) was established in Okayama and Hyogo prefectures. In the following five years, "Rokin" was established in all prefectures except Okinawa, and the Labor Bank Law (Law No. 227 of 1953) was enacted in 1953.
At that time, "Rokin" played a significant role in protecting the lives of working people in the chaotic social environment after the war. At that time, workers had little social credit, making it difficult to obtain loans from banks. However, "Rokin" provided loans to protect the lives of such working people. In addition, "Rokin" actively provided loans for a wide range of living needs, such as emergency loans in times of disaster, loans to address wage arrears during recessions, and loans to take over high-interest debts.
In 1966, Okinawa Rokin was established, bringing the total number of banks to 47. Since then, regional integration has been promoted in various locations to further improve services and build a strong management foundation, resulting in the current number of 13 banks.
"Rokin" aims to continue to be a life support bank that creates dreams and empathy for working people based on the "Rokin Philosophy."
